In addition to her painting, Katherine also teaches privately to children from ages five and up and is involved in hands-on projects at the public schools. The Kids Wall at Longshore in Westport, CT, was conceived by Katherine, and with the help of Miggs Burroughs, involved the work of 1400 middle school students in creating a 44 foot by 6 foot mosaic wall depicting life above and below the sea, the largest piece of public art in Westports history. She is a member of the Arts Advisory Committee of Westport, Westport Cultural Arts Committee, The Westport Art Center, The Rowayton Art Center, and the Connecticut Graphic Arts Center. She has co-chaired the Art Smarts Program, which introduces painters and art knowledge to the children in public school. Katherine has run workshops at The Katona Museum of Art and the Westport Art Center.
While working in the graphic department of McGraw-Hill in New York, she studied painting and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts. She began her career designing corporate logos, book covers, and album covers. Her illustration for To Kill a Mockingbird is featured in a leather bound book published by MBI. Katherine has also attended the Silvermine Guild. She has studied painting under Robert Baxter, Anne Toulmin-Roth, and Charles Reid and printmaking with James Reed, April Vollmer, and Anthony Kirk at the Center of Contemporary Print Making.
She has exhibited at the Westport Arts Center, including a one-woman show in 1999, the juried 50th Annual Art of the Northeast Show at Silvermine Guild more recently the 53rd Art of the Northeast exhibition where she won The Amity Art Foundation Award for her monotype From the Ashes. Katherine has also exhibited at The Nature Center, Westports Town Hall, The Burr Homestead in Fairfield, The Arts Council of Fairfield Juried Exhibition where she won Honorable Mention for her charcoal drawing, The Connecticut Graphic Arts Center in membership and juried exhibitions, the Norfield Art Show in Weston, the Rowayton Art Center, and The Westchester Center for the Arts. Katherine and her husband Cliff have three children and reside in Westport.
